  I was told by a high level person here that there is no difference between war time duty and peace time duty. The rules I came up against were completely arbitrary yet inflexible. The non-veteran staff I worked with was vicious. If VT VA has helped anyone I am glad but from my viewpoint God help you if you ever need anything from these people.

  Had to deal with the crew here a few different time. Each time was different but I will say for VT being a small state and this being the only place to get the things done we need, I can't complain. Once the paperwork got lost, voiced my concern and the next time I sent paperwork it was sent back instantly. Really can't trust anyone these days so you have to give them a chance due to the amount of "veterans" making false claims and trying to receive the benefits we deserve and not the fakes. Cant really blame them for not being able to trust someone on the phone and such. Anyone can make a fake DD214 these days, maybe its why it is hard to get the things we need done done.

  Newly arrived to the state, I wanted to get Vermont Veterans plates - Had an issue getting my Veterans plates when I took my old ones to the DMV with Veteran on my drivers license from Maine - the DMV said I had to go through Vermont Veterans Affairs first. I had heard stories from others about all the time it took to get them. I e-mailed and got a reply from Rhonda (at the Vermont Veterans Affairs) who sent me the form, and I sent back the completed form with a copy of my DD 214. She sent me the signed copy within 15 minutes. It is not hard if you take the time to find out the proper way to do things. I am spreading the word about how to properly do it...the DMV does not have the authority to sign the Veterans form, no matter how many ways you prove you are a Veteran, so get your paperwork to the Vermont Veterans Affairs first, and save yourself the hassle. When I went to the DMV - no problems. I was told by the DMV, however that if I register another vehicle, I will have to go through the same process. That I don't get because it is in the DMV database already, but I was told, this is Vermont - welcome to it! As far as dealing with the State Veterans Affairs - they are great!!
